History of Zoebliss / Madison Violet

Madison Violet consists of the duo Brenley MacEachern (vocals, guitar, banjo, and harmonica) and Lisa MacIsaac (vocals, guitar, fiddle, and mandolin) and was formed in 1999 after the breakup of Zoebliss.

In the late nineties Brenley MacEachern and Lisa MacIsaac first met in Toronto. At the time MacEachern was a member of the band Zoebliss and Lisa MacIsaac joined Zoebliss for a short period until the band split up in 1999.

MacEachern and MacIsaac decided they wanted to continue working together, so  the duo formed Madviolet, but in order not to be mistaken for the eighties band of the same name that was quickly changed into Madison Violet, which also sounded softer and was the better choice overall. Since then the duo has toured all over the world for over nine years, building a solid fan base during that time. The force behind Madison Violet was the personal touch they were able to give their performances making the audience feel like they were attending a campfire sing-along.

The duo went to London to record their first two albums where they worked with the famous producer John Reynolds who is well known for his work with artists like U2 and Sinead O'Conner. This resulted in 4 nominations for the prestigious ECMA award, an award for best vocal group in Canada and a top 40 single in the Canadian charts.

In 2008 Madison Violet signed up with the Big Lake label in order to release their album "Caravan” in Germany, which they originally recorded in 2006 and released independently. The release proved very successful with radio stations picking up the single 'Worry the Jury', and this in turn resulted in more people attending their shows at an increasing rate at every performance. During September and October of that year the band toured large parts of Europe as the support act for Ron Sexmith.

During the summer of 2008 the third album was recorded called No Fool for Trying, which was released in Canada. This time working with Les Cooper as a producer the duo went back to their roots. This latest release is more somber due to experiences of loss by both Lisa and Brenley, but this takes the music to a new level with mature lyrics. The events over the years have contributed to help Brenley MacEachern and Lisa MacIsaac grow as performers, which in turn evolved their music and Madison Violet has grown into a solid band.
